It seems the Oyo State mass transit scheme, Pacesetter Transport, is taking a leaf from the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit scheme, as it has disclosed a plan to create a dedicated lane for the state’s high capacity transport buses in an effort to end the constant collision of the buses with other vehicles on the road.\
The state’s 90-seater buses currently share the same roads and bus stops with other smaller commuter buses and commercial motorcycles.
General Manager of Pacesetter Transport, Mr. Wole Akinyele, disclosed that the proposal for the dedicated lane was already before the state government and the state House of Assembly for approval.
He made this known while speaking in Ibadan on Tuesday at a sensitization programme to educate transport stakeholders on the need to respect the rights of all road users.
The police, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Vehicle Inspection Office collaborated with Pacesetter Transport to organise the programme.
Akinyele said, “The mass transit scheme, which is hugely subsidised, has operated for two years. The next phase is the creation of the Lagos prototype lane for our buses.”
